Lest We Forget - Remembrance Day

On the morning of 22nd September 2019 this photographer was awakened by the sound of torrential rain and thunder; this didn't bode well for the band's tour of the community being done a bit later. However, by 12 o'clock when we all met at Kearsley Mount Methodist Church the sky was just dark grey, but fortunately nothing was falling out of it. We played a short set in front of The Mayor and Consort at the award ceremony for the winners of the Scarecrow Festival.

On 15th September 2019 we played our first concert of the new season at St. John the Baptist Church, Little Hulton. We were welcomed by the new Vicar, the Revd. David Cooper who was most keen to hear us play, particularly as his whole family are musicians.

On the 14th July 2019 we paid our second visit to Brass at the Seaside in St. Anns. Fortunately this year, both the weather and venue were kinder to us. Whilst it was a nice warm day we didn't have the baking unrelenting sun of last year.

The Annual Band Awards Night occurred on 5th July 2019 at St. John's Fisher Church in Kearsley. Both the Main Band and Training Band performed a number of pieces in front of the Mayor of Bolton and a packed audience. During the evening Mark explained to everybody what an honour it was that Kearsley Youth Brass Band had been granted the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. This is in recognition of all of the volunteers' hard work, and the contribution that we as a band make to the wider community.

KYBB and their volunteers based in Kearsley have been honoured with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service; the highest award a voluntary group can receive in the UK.
The prestigious award comes as Kearsley Youth Brass Band is actively raising funds to tour to Oslo, Norway in August 2020. For nearly 10 years, volunteers have worked tirelessly to produce an outstanding and unique community youth brass band, and this tour is to commemorate the band's 10th anniversary in 2020.
Representatives from KYBB attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace on the 29th of May, along with other recipients of this year's award.
KYBB is one of 281 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. The number of nominations and awards has increased year on year since the awards were introduced in 2002, showing that the voluntary sector is thriving and full of innovative ideas to make life better for those around them.

Christmas was, as usual, a very busy time for The Band. We played a full concert of Christmas Music at Kearsley Mount Methodist Church as part of our Christmas Fair and were also invited to play at three local Christmas Light Switch On Events (Farnworth Christmas Tree, The Grapes' Christmas Tree and Luke Whittaker's Family Home).
